I have had issues with being consistent with my drives. I’m gradually gaining more distance but I just can’t seem to get my drives where I want them to. I have played around with tightness of my grip (I use the four finger power grip) I have issues of releasing early and late as well as some great shots and I can’t pin down the problem. Any ideas would be great!

Hey Shawn,
No pro here, but I struggled for a long time with this.
My solution ended up being pretty simple; I just changed where my body, hips and shoulders, faced when I released.
Being that my issue was always letting loose to the right {right handed}, I spent some time working out where my arm was when I was releasing and turning my body to a degree equal to my over-extension. In my case, I’m almost facing 90 degrees counter clockwise to the front of the tee pad when I release.
Again no pro here, but it solved my problem and is something I can rely on.

I agree with Nick. Give this a try to line yourself up: If you are throwing a right-handed backhand shot, stand still on the teepad with a 90 degree ccw turn. Look over your right shoulder and point your arm straight ahead off the teepad. This is the direction that your disc will travel when thrown properly. If you need to throw a few degrees to the left or right, turn you hips and feet until you’re lined up with your right shoulder pointing to the desired direction of travel.
When you take your run-up, make sure your momentum carries you on that line, whether it is straight down the center of the teepad or somewhat diagonal. When you release the disc, your body should roughly be lined up just how it was on your over-the-shoulder lineup.
I visualize the release point during this pre-throw lineup and at the beginning of the run-up. When your body is turned turned backward during the x-step run-up, there is a moment that your head should be turned to the left enough that you can’t see the line you chose. When your body unfurls from the rotation and your head comes back around to the right, focus your eyes back to the line that you chose, and release the disc on that line.
According to this photo, I apparently keep my left hand on my disc for an extended amount of time. I think it helps me to keep the disc on the right path.
